What this tool does

Trims the visible area of your pages, removing excess margins, scanner artefacts or unwanted edges.

When to use Crop PDF

  • Scanner edges. Scans frequently include a black border, a strip of the scanner lid, or a grey margin where the paper did not align.
  • Excessive margins. Documents formatted for print often carry large margins that waste screen space when read on a phone.
  • Mobile readability. Cropping to the text area makes a document considerably easier to read on a small screen.
  • Removing headers or footers. Trimming a header band or a footer stamp from every page.

Why it is useful

  • It helps make the document easier to read without resizing or zooming.
  • It removes distracting page edges and scanner artifacts.
  • It gives a cleaner presentation before sharing or archiving.

Privacy and safety note

pdf-lib adjusts each page's crop box — the region a reader displays. The content outside it is hidden rather than deleted, which is why cropping is fast and lossless. Processing is local.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping delete the hidden content?

No. It is hidden from view but remains in the file. Do not rely on cropping to remove confidential information.

Can I crop each page differently?

Not in one pass. Split the document, crop separately, then merge.

Does it reduce file size?

Very little, because content is hidden rather than removed.

Can I undo a crop?

Not in this tool. Keep your original.

Is anything uploaded?

No.
